Ling Wang, MD, PhD

Research Assistant Professor
Lab co-director
Biography

Dr. Wang has broad basic science trainings and experience in vascular cell and molecular biology, nitrite/nitric oxide signaling pathway, redox biology, mitochondrial function and various preclinical animal models. Dr. Wang started collaboration with Dr. Li from 2015 on the pathogenesis of muscle/bone comorbidity in DMD when she was a junior research faculty in Vascular Medicine Institute, University of Pittsburgh. They identified significantly altered expression of several bone-regulating myokines in DMD animal models, and further demonstrated that muscle-derived FGF21 negatively regulates bone homeostasis and may represent a novel therapeutic target in DMD (JBMR 2019). In July 2021, Dr. Wang joined Dr. Li’s new lab in the University of Iowa as a Research Assistant Professor to further investigate the pathological roles of FGF21 in the pathogenesis of muscle and bone comorbidity in DMD. Dr. Wang's other research interest includes understanding the role of vascular endothelial cells in muscular skeletal disease. Dr. Wang has served as co-investigator on several NIH and other grants including Dr. Li’s current R01.
